How To Plumb The Depth

All successful anglers take time to establish the depth of the water in front of them before they start fishing. When legering, you can estimate the depth by counting how long it takes for your lead or feeder to touch the bottom after casting out. If you are float fishing, however, it is vital to accurately check the depth by using a plummet.

A plummet is like an underwater eye that will tell you how deep your swim is. As you build up a picture in your mind of what is happening beneath the surface, you will begin to understand where the fish are likely to be.
