When To Use A Float

Before you start fishing with a float there are a couple factors to think about - the distance that you want to fish and  the size of the fish you are likely to catch

A good suggestion for anyone on their first few fishing trips is to fish around 1 rod length out from the bank; just off the bottom of the marginal slope.  This is a great spot to ambush a few fish as they are looking for food.

You can find out about the species the lake hold by talking to other anglers and the fishery owner/bailiff. This will give you a rough idea of what you can catch. Don't try targeting huge carp on your first few sessions; you will build up the skills and experience to catch bigger fish over time.
