What Are Particle Baits?

Particle baits include things like nuts, pulses, beans and seeds. Some of the more popular ones for fishing include:

Hemp - a dull coloured bait with a soft white inner. Small in size and perfect for all types of fish as a carpet feed. Include a little in feeder mixes for something different, or feed by catapult for species like carp, tench and roach.

Sweetcorn - yes, the good old golden grain is a fantastic bait and works for almost every species. It's easy to hook on and throw into your swim. Don't overfeed corn as it can fill the fish up quickly.

Tares - These are similar to hempseed, only slightly larger and without the bright white inner. A great roach bait and again a good carpet feed for carp, tench and roach.

Maple Peas - A forgotten bait but one that has a nutty, sweet taste. Tench and carp love them and as they are around 10mm in size, they are easily fed by hand or with a catapult.

Partiblend (a mixture of seeds) - This is primarily used by big carp anglers to get a bed of feed down, but tench and bream like it too. Some mixes are boosted with aniseed, for extra attraction.

Tiger Nuts - These are a hard bait that cannot be hooked directly. Great for big carp.
